Action - Christmas Morning

However Jack sleeps as a robot- whether he just flips on and off, has a rest cycle, whatever- Harley, at least, still sleeps like a normal flesh girl. And unless someone's banging on her door and shouting that they're the cops, it takes awhile, piecemeal until her eyes are open and she's back in the world.

This particular morning- although it's nearly afternoon- is no different.

She stretches, first- silk sheets and something hard and cool under the arm and leg that've flung themselves wide. Not Bruce- Arly? Since when does he take up the other side of the bed? No- it's Jack, of course it's Jack. The realization has her tucking closer, her face against his chest, and fading out again for a little while.

But this morning is different, somehow. There was something- she was supposed to do? There's a party, but that's not until tonight. And Slade's having a party because-

Because it's Christmas.

Harley's eyes pop open.

"Jack." It's a whisper, in case he's still asleep. "Jack, it's Christmas!"

Jack's sleep mode is like a computer's - a low power setting that he can come out of immediately. His processor is dormant, the light in his eyes and leaking out around his faceplate is off. He still likes lying in bed when he does it, even when he's alone. It's the little things. Especially now that he's living in his castle and has a giant bed with ridiculously expensive bedding to 'sleep' in.

In this case, he comes out of it when Harley says his name. Suddenly there's a soft whirring sound as he powers up, the light coming on in his eyes.

"Hey babe." The human part of his mind is slower to come online, and the words are sluggish and muffled. Christmas, right. Mercenary Day! It's here! He shifts a little, reaching up to run his fingers through hair that's only slightly mussed from sleeping.

"Morning."

"Christmas morning," is her correction. She's already half on top of him: a little shimmy, and Harley is outright straddling Jack, propping her head up on his chest. A kiss is planted on his mouth, and then she straightens a little.

"Or Merc's Day- sometime you got to tell me that story." The Santa Hat Jack was wearing during last night's, ahem, festivites, is still puddled on the nightstand; Harley reaches to plant it on her own head, hair still wild and going this way and that.

"Presents, and snow, and hot chocolate and cookies, and presents, and songs, and jingly bells, and presents-"

Okay, now she's bouncing a little. It's not meant to be licentious- or at least, not much.

[MERRY NATTENFEST! It feels like the holiday changes every year. Maybe it does. Regardless, Jack receives a variation on the standard office 'everyone' gift; inside a scarf wrapped pack, can be found a kind of gimmicky sort of keychain that has a bottle opener, flashlight, tape measure, and knife in it somehow. Why? It's neat. But more importantly is that this was bundled up with a small 'Sea Bears' Kit.

According to the card, Noa didn't want to hand him a mug and chocolate packs, because that's dumb, you're supposed to be able to actually use the stuff you get. Also, he'd have done more about the tank, but figures building a miniature city would be something Jack wants to do on his own. Given the pictures included in the instructions booklet for the 'sea-bears', these things can get pretty intense.

Oh, but more importantly, there's an ACTUAL present!

Having worked with the guy as long as he has, he would hope he has a grasp on Jack's sense of fashion; he's thus made a waterproof jacket according to those tastes. Stay dry in style, Jack.]

This is your OFFICIAL notification that the monster pinup calendar photoshoot has been delayed to January 18th, owing to blizzards, burning, alien flesh parasites, and death. Sorry for the short notice, but your friendly neighborhood organizers were trapped in a death hotel, so. Tough.

In the meantime, this gives YOU more time to think about the shoot! As you're a Simulacrum, your calendar month will be April, with the theme of Science... not going to lie, I wrote down Hot Rods, but seems like I was vetoed. Your fellow Sim is in theory Cellist on the Network; but I'll be straight with you honey, he's off sulking somewhere and I'm not actually sure if he's going to show up. Well, we'll figure something out; I've still got one of your lab coats around here somewhere.

[ It's been over a week since Jack sealed the two of them in here. This awful, dark castle that Angel could feel her leaves wilting in even before the lockdown. It's been over a week since he took away the only means of communication she'd have to the outside world, any chance she had on checking on her friends, making sure they were okay with whatever was going on out there. And she'd promised- she'd promised Steve she wouldn't disappear again. Just when things seemed to have been mending and here she'd gone MIA, denied even a chance to explain before Jack pulled the plug on her.

It's been a little less than week since she trashed her bedroom, deep scratches left across the upholstery of her furniture, ottomans overturned in her anger and frustration. In her helplessness. She couldn't tear down the main thing in her way, she didn't have the power to tear down Jack.

But finally, finally on the morning of the 24th she notices the windows have been opened again, that the guards are not blocking every possible entry way. She's free- except she's not. And she has something to say about that.

By the time she finds Jack, even if her anger weren't given away by her posture, expression or tone, he would know how mad she is by how her vines are glowing a bright and threatening red. ]

The one condition I made. You broke it.

[Jack is catching up on some paperwork that's been brought by from the labs, standard procedure for following an Upset. He doesn't leave the castle when something goes down - no one does. It's the security system. He doesn't appear to look up when Angel enters.]

It's standard security when shit goes stupid and weird. Castle goes on lockdown, no one in or out, radio silence. And it's got nothing to do with you, this is how we've been doing it since before you moved in. I have a castle full of people to look after, including a bunch of humans who tend to not do well when monsterkind is going nuts. I've got a lot of employees, Angel, and people can't keep track. It's not like I got a couple that everyone knows to leave alone. I'm sorry about the inconvenience, but I promise, I wasn't thinking 'gotta lock my kid up'. Just trying to keep everybody who lives and works here safe. You got any better suggestions, I'll listen to'em.

[The castle's protocols have nothing to do with her. There's dozens of humans that live here and are just as susceptible to whatever fuckery is about. Plus her and Virgil and the horses and shit...there's a lot. And it's not as easy to replace employees here. It just hadn't occurred to him how it'd seem to Angel.

Cuz I do mean it - this wasn't about you, or me, or the messy crap between us. I probably shoulda said something but...look, ya know I've been having a hard time lately. I wasn't even myself half the time. I make all kinds of weird choices when my brain turns off. But...uh...we can talk about this. Figure something else out for next time for you.
